Welwyn Pegasus U9 v Welwyn Pegasus U9
Potters Bar Utd Tournament Shield Final
U9 Welwyn Pegasus Blue (2) vs U9 Welwyn Pegasus (0)
The U9's entered two mixed teams from the Royals and Sapphires along with three new players to the Potters Bar Utd Tournament and both teams managed to qualify for the Shield Final after an indifferent start.
Both teams took time to gel in the group stages mainly because neither had played as a team before, but they both managed to qualify for the shield quarter final.
The Blue side beat Potters Bar 1-0 and the other Pegasus team showed great spirit to come from behind to beat Harpenden 2-1 in their quarter final.
Waltham Cross met our Pegasus Blue team in the Semi Final, which the Blues dually won 1-0 and East Herts were despatched 2-0 by the other, which meant the Shield Final was an all Welwyn Pegasus affair.
All the Welwyn Pegasus parents and coaches supported both teams equally in what was a even match, but the Final was won by the Blue team 2-0. Well done both teams.
Welwyn Pegasus Girls U11 played in the Knebworth Youth Mini Football Festival today (16/06/13). This was a 5-a-side tournment with 5-a-side rules. There were 5 U11 girls' teams including ourselves. We played a round-robin (4 matches) followed by semi-finals and then a final.
With 12 min games, our first game was against Bedwell Rangers (1) (just relegated from 1st division) - we dominated the match and won comfortably by 2-0 (scorers: Ellie (2)). Next up was the other Bedwell Rangers team (2), this turned out to an easier game than expected where we played some excellent football and won comfortably again, this time 4-1 (scorers: Ellie (1), Beth (2), Rubie (1)). Our 3rd game was against one of the host teams; Knebworth Youth Blacks (just promoted to 1st division). We dominated again in this game by pressing up on their players early, but we couldn't capitalise on this for a while until we made the break-through and scored - we won 1-0 (scorer: Ellie). Finally into the last match which turned out to be the top of the table decider! We were up against the other Knebworth team Youth (Yellow). This was a much closer game but we had our chances and we even hit the bar with a great effort from Ellie. Unfortunately some indecision at a corner led to us conceding an own goal and lost 0-1, which resulted in us being the runners-up, but a place in the semi-final never-the-less.
Our semi-final was against Bedwell Rangers (1) and the other semi-final was the the host teams; Knebworth Youth Blacks v Knebworth Youth Yellows. We again dominated in this game, but with Bedwell frustrating us with some great goalkeeping, we finally made the breakthrough and scored; (Ellie) - we won 1-0. Finally we met up with Knebworth Youth Yellows again, this time, in the final, a good opportunity to gain revenge for our earlier defeat. Another great battle ensued, but with our pace and guile we proved we were as good a team playing the ball to feet and into space as opposed to the long ball game! A clever move started with Rubie threading through a lovely ball to Ellie who in turn ran at the defender and made a crucial pass to the unmarked Sophie in the box, who unleashed a first-time strike at the ball which found the back of the the net!
A few last nervy minutes of play past before the final whistle went and we won the final 1-0. Well done Girls!

Welwyn Pegasus U10 Royals Win King George Silver Cup
On Sunday 2nd June, the U10 Welwyn Pegasus Royals stormed to victory in the Silver Cup at the King George Annual 7 a-side Tournament.
The boys held a very strong defence throughout the whole tournament and from a total of 8 games, they only let in one goal! The difficulty was finishing teams off since we had a lot of possession. However, some of this lack of goal power was down to the games only be 9 minutes long; this was a real challenge for us. However, we showed good resilience and effort throughout the whole tournament to keep persevering. This resilience was evident in the Semi Final against St Margaretsbury when after dominating the entire game, it went on to penalties. Goalkeeper, Reece Hopkins, who seems to love the challenge of penalties, showed excellent concentration and managed to save 3 of their 5 penalties and sent the team through to the Final.
In the Final, the boys played local rivals Panshanger Lions. The boys once again dominated possession and they rarely troubled our defence and goal. At the other end, their Goalkeeper made 2 or 3 fantastic saves from close range. It looked like it was going to go to penalties again but a long shot from Harrison Judge got an unfortunate and deflection off one of their defenders and the ball cruelly looped over their Goalkeeper's head, leaving him no chance. From here, the boys held on to comfortable to win their first tournament of the year.
Well done boys!
