Match Report

This performance and result was an excellent way to end our fantastic season! We know from our previous encounters with Bengeo FC that they are resilient group of players who play competitive football. Even though they only had 10 men, they made it hard for us to break them down, particularly in the first half,

Throughout the game, we played some good neat possession football. As a result of this, we were able to put three to four good passes together and we didn’t always panic on the ball, opting instead to pass backwards and start again. This is something we have been working on training and so it was nice to see the players adopt this style of play in an actual game. This possession game meant we were able to wear out the opposing team and this became more evident as the game went on as the opposition got tired. This then created more space for us to exploit. By the end of the game, we created numerous good goal scoring chances and our finishing today was not as sharp as it needs to be. At a higher level, as a team we may not create so many goal scoring opportunities so it is going to be important to finish good chances when we get them.

I think also the game showed today that the players have increased their confidence of playing on the ball. Their first touches was generally good and we rarely gave the ball away in dangerous areas so this shows that our decision making is also improving too.

We have to give the Bengeo players a lot of credit as they did defend well and their lone striker was still a threat when he got the ball. We must learn to deal with this threat and defend it far better (by crowding the player and boxing the player - double team - before he even gets the ball; not waiting until he gets it)

Overall, a very positive and pleasing team performance. There are things that we still need to work on in preparation for promotion next season both as a team and as individuals. Training and some friendly games will enable us to work on those things.
